Well, I've realized something and proved it correct ! If you work yourself up for something to be a GIANT pain and VERY difficult, it will usually turn out to be nothing!
I had an Xbox cake to do for a coworker's son...fretted for weeks about all that black icing (they did not want fondant). Kept reading post and post, tip after tip about making black BC...started 2 days ahead of time, JUST in case I messed up, I'd have time to do more...and what happens??? IT TURNED OUT GREAT AND EASY!!
I'm pretty proud of the cake and the black icing was not that big of a deal. And the little I tasted didn't turn my mouth black!!
Thanks for all the tips and suggestions!!!

That's a wonderful X-Box! The lines are really good on it. Fun to make as well, eh?

Nicely done!

Hey Steph! I thought the same thing about all the xboxes?! When I was planning this cake about a month ago, I couldn't find any around, now it's what everyone is doing!

To make my black I made a double batch of the Wilton chocolate BC and used Nestle Tollhouse (I think it tastes better than the Hersheys). I added almost a full bottle of Americolor black to this double batch. I also added a little bit of light corn syrup. When I was done it was a dark grey but after a trip to the fridge, a trip out, and slapping it on the cake, it turned out a perfect black! MUCH easier than I had thought!!!

Thanks for all your wonderful comments too!!!

Atta Girl!!! There is no need for anyone to be scared of Making Reds,Blacks and Blues!! If you use Americolors you only need a drop or two and wilton pastes require alot more but will give you a great result also!

is there a trick to this that I haven't figured out yet? I've been trying to make navy blue, even went and bought the americolor navy because my wilton wasn't doing it...the best I can come up with is a sky-gray blue.. if anyone has any hints I'd love to hear them...thanks
