Hi

I am a twice a year kind of cake decorator(for my kids birthdays!)

I want to make these cupcakes

http://www.marthastewart.com/312831/ladybug-cupcakes?czone=food/best-cupcake-recipes/our-best-cupcakes¢er=276944&gallery=274888&slide=285827

The suggestion is to use marzipan for the ladybugs, but I am not sure if I will be able to find it without Almonds and I can't seem to find a recipe for the cherry marzipan that is suggested to use.

I have never used Marzipan or fondant, but I was wondering if I could just buy a small tub of fondant and make the ladybugs the same way.  Will I get the same results?

Thank you!

Bridy

p.s. has anyone made the swiss meringue buttercream before?  I usually just make a traditional buttercream but thought to give this one a try.

AYep, fondant will be fine, in fact, if you'd asked "what do you think these ladybirds are made of?" I bet most people would have said fondant. Can't help with the smbc, never made it. I'm sure somebody will be able to help though. :-)

AYou sure can use fondant for the ladybug, it's quite easy to make. I did those with store bought red and black fondant. Sorry for the SMBC question, I'm no help on that one! Never used it...yet.
