I am having difficulty taking pictures of my cakes. Does anyone have any suggestions? Especially hard are pictures of cakes with white icing. I use a digital camera....they just turn out pale.
Thanks, Judy

Put them in a brightly lit room and don't use the flash. If they are light colored cakes, put a sheet or something of a darker color behind them, if they are a dark cake, put something (like a backdrop) light behind them.

Yes, definitely try for natural light with no flash. You can even drape a table cloth or solid fabric over something as a backdrop. Just having one solid color in the background helps, I think. No clutter.

I'm by no means an expert! All my photos are just with my cheapie little digital. It also helps to crop out distracting objects, if you can.

Hope this helps.

We use tablecloths for our backgrounds. They are cheap and easy to get in different colors. Some seen to reflect the light better than others. Also if you get a good photo editing softwear - you can adjust the brightness/shaddowns/sharpness. Even a bad photo is able to be aproved upon. Try different things with the same cake - bright room light, dim, different colored backgrounds, flash on or off. You'll learn what is better for each cake and situation.

Good Luck!

I take mine outside with a large black card backdrop. I then use photoshop to select all the black and change it to white - this also works on white cakes, but I sometimes keep the background black. If you look at my photos you'll see what I mean. I don't go in for backdrops at all.

I experiment with each cake, as seen in my photos. I prefer direct sunlight. However, I actually needed the artificial light on the white victorian cake to be able to see the crystal topper but it made the cake look yellowish.
