I am attempting my first wedding cake for my sister in October. I have done many cakes but never for a wedding. Attached is a miniture cake (she just wants a bigger version of it).
I was wondeing what is the best icing to use (MMF or buttercream)?
Also, the red dots she wants on the side, I have heard colors can bleed (I have never had this experience) but I want to make sure when I pipe the red dots they will not bleed onto the white icing or fondant.
I will be making a fondant bow in red too. How much color should I use to get that red color? I have never colored fondant before. And which fondant is better to use for the bow (wilton or MMF)?
Also, here is my transportation problem. I am in the wedding and I have to be to the church and do my sisters hair for 5:00. The reception hall will open for me at 4:00 and I will have an hour to do what I need to do. Should I wait to put the dots and cake together when I get there so they won't bleed or should I go with it all put together? I have transported cakes before with no problem I just want to make sure nothing goes wrong.
One more ?
How many people will a 6", 9", & 12" feed (all two layers with filling)?
Thank you all in advance for your help.
Well, I can help with the servings. The 12" and 9" should feed 70. The top tier is typically saved for the couple's 1st anniversary.
I have read that a lot of people on this site like to use gumpaste for their bows. I am attempting one for this weekend.
I would use the no taste red coloring. Not sure how much you will need.
Hope I helped some!
Good Luck ![]()

Wow, seems like you have your hands full....
On the question regarding the icing, it is up to the bride as to which icing she wants....
About the dots, they should be oaky, they should bleed unless expose to high heat... As for the bow, again, if not exposed to high heat
I would assemble at the reception site...
