Here is my recipe. 1 teaspoon Wilton Glucose, 4 tablespoons warm water, 1 tablespoon Wilton Gum-Tex and 1 pound of confectioners' sugar.
Stir the Glucose in the warm water until it has disolved. Add the Gum-tex to the confectioner sugar. Make a well in the center and pour the water and Glucose mixture into the well. Mix well. Put this in a plastic bag and let set at room temperature overnight. The next day knead the mixture and add your color.

I *just* today got both the gum-tex and gumpaste mix from Wilton. Primarily to practice on since I've never worked with either before. I didn't realize the gum-tex could be used separately...? If so, then why have both?

I buy the gumpaste mix from www.beryls.com...all you have to do is grease your kitchen aide mixer and paddle....

add the powder...it comes with a little measuring cup for the water.

mix till it pulls away from the bowl, store until you are ready to use.

Most home made gumpaste has to be stored for at least 24 hours to age or cure to be reliable.

Not this stuff. and it comes in red and green.

When I make roses, I make the red batch and a white batch, and proceed to "step down" my color.

I start with all red, then as I go add more and more white, so I can get nice shades of red roses.

Then I use my dusting colors to give them a more realistic tone.

I hope this helps.

And once your flowers are dry, they keep forever if you keep them away from sun, dust and moisture. I store them in styrofoam that I cut to fit plastic shoe boxes that I get for a dollar at the .99 cent store!

The Wilton site has lots of instructions. here is one for fondant roses (can be made with gumpaste, as well!)

It's kind of difficult to post directions for flowers since some directions can be quite lengthy. I would recommend buying a book on making gumpaste flowers so you have directions and illustrations.. Nicholas Lodge has some great books and videos (dvd's) on how to make flowers. His prices are reasonable as well. www.nicholaslodge.com

He also has a great recipe for gumpaste... It's pretty easy to make and work with.

Good luck!!
