My nephew is turning 12 this weekend and wants a "grown up cake". He was wanting a chocolate cake with strawberry icing, but doesn't want it to look girly. I am relatively new to decorating and am only just now getting good at buttercream and ganache. I am at a loss for ideas. Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance.

perhaps if you do ganache with chocolate dipped strawberries.

strawbery icing is usually somewhat pink...so not that easy to make "boyish"

you can always add color to the frosting to get the pink tint out of it. Wilton has white color that works pretty good.
