AI need help with a new cake I've been asked to do. How do I make fondant look like it's been rusting away like a car. Including a pic for this but it's not the clearest. TIA
Are you familiar with 'Luster Dust' or 'Pearl Dust' or even Wilton 'Color Dust'?
The Wilton 'Color Dust' is sold @ Hobby Lobby and perhaps if you use their brown, that'd work. It adds a matte looking finish to fondant decorations. Just brush it on in the spots where you are trying to get that rusty look. Hope this helps.
I love that watering can, cakeyouverymuch!!! Is the handle and spout made from fondant? The ladybirds on it are too cute :)
Actually, both are a fondant/gum paste mix. I used coat hanger wire covered with bendy straws for the shape of the handle and spout and covered them with a 50/50 mix of fondant and gum paste then attached long wooden skewers to the ends. I stuck them into Styrofoam dummies to dry a bit. Before attaching them to the cake itself I ran more soda straws through the cake to the board and inserted the skewers all the way into the board inside the straws. To make it work you have to anticipate the angle at which the straw/skewer combination needs to run through the cake to allow the skewer to hit the board, otherwise the weight of the handle or spout can pull itself out of the cake, tearing a hole as it goes.

What is "CK" brand? I'm just wondering if places carry that brand in Canada
Mine came from PM Hobbycraft in Calgary, Alberta (Google PM Hobbycraft then search CK product). If you Google CK products and go to their website they have a supplier in Spruce Grove, Alberta as well. I've never ordered online from either. My hubby's a trucker and is willing to stop in and pick up whatever my little heart desires (and anything that catches his eye that he thinks I might like).

Thanks so much for that :) I'd love to give this cake a go sometime. It's so pretty.
Nadiaa,
Thank you. Its one of my favorites among my own cakes. If you do one, make sure you post pictures.
I will for sure :) I have a couple of kids birthday cakes coming up and then I'll have time to do something fun for me :)
I know this is an old post but I just recently did horseshoes for my friends wedding and it was so easy to do it and they look amazing... I took white fondant to make the horseshoe then I too the wilton color mist in black and sprayed the whole shoe while it was still wet I sprayed a lil silver color mist on it.. which led the black to bleed a lil and made a brownish color then I took CK metallic gold glitter dust and while the shoes were still very tacky I to a fluffy brush dipped it into the gold and then onto the show it make it textured and gave a hint of gold then I took CK orange glitter dust and did the same thing with it... since the shoe was still tacky and wet it made the glitter dust a lil grainy on the shoe so that it looked worn and like the rust was coming off it. was very happy with the outcome heres a picture
