Cake That Looks Like A Quakimg Aspen

Hey folks! I have a wedding cake coming up in May that looks like a quaking aspen with the couple's initials carved in the center. I planned on hand painting it, or piping it to get the aspen look. But, I really want it to have a realistic 3D look. Any suggestions on how you would do this? Thanks everyone! I am new at this, and love the easy access to expert advise! :)
There are tutorials on CC on how to do birch bark, I would use one of those and adjust as needed.
