I wanted to cover a large cylinder with fondant for a castle cake.  I am planning on using either PVC pipe or empty paper towel roll.  Questions are ... will fondant adhere to directly to PVC?  and ... if I use the paper towel roll and cover it in foil, will the fondant adhere to that?  I am fairly new at this and could use a little help.  Thanks so much.

Yes.  The castle cake in my gallery has styrofoam cores for the turrets.  I just brushed them with water and rolled the fondant over top.

I made a boy castle and used pringle cans for the turrets and just painted them with piping gel, then rolled them in fondant.
