Is the fondant/gumpaste hard? can you stick some skewers in it to support it upright?

im using fondant for the top and gum paste for the bottom the top isnt too hard yet i made it in advance a couple days ago but still not setting up  sure i make the top on gum paste?, im also using toothpicks on the top but nothing

I would try to insert skewers into the length of it and into the cake as well.  As long as the fondant is hardening I do not see a reason that you'd have to make it out of gumpaste on top. But I definitely would try to stick skewers in it to that it reaches the bottom of the cake.
