AI've been baking for a while using mostly box mix... Is there a way to add something to box mix to get a slightly higher yield? Even when filling cups pretty consistently, I end up with 23 instead of 24. And I know I'm not overfilling because even some of those are small! What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

I would use the WASC cake recipe (link below).  You basically add (in addition to, basic box ingredients) 1 C each of, flour, sugar, and sour cream to give you more batter.
