AI know this sounds like a stupid question, but I need some kind of explanation! What is the difference between royal icing and buttercream? I've been decorating for ab two years in my home, but I'm totally self taught so there are still some basicsnim missing! What is royal Better for as opposed to buttercream? Thanks for your help!

Royal icing is a thinner hard setting icing, made from egg whites and powdered sugar. It's what you see on decorated sugar cookies and traditional string work on cakes.

Butter cream is softer and has more volume, it's what you would frost a cake or cupcake in.
