I am making a wedding cake at the end of August that will be 4 tiers, but the 2 middle tiers will be dummy cakes.

The cake sizes will be 12", 10", 8", 6".

The dummies will be the 10" and the 8".

My question is, do I order the dummies in those sizes or do I order them an inch smaller so they will end up being those sizes after they are covered in buttercream?

I wasn't sure if I should order the actual size I need and just put a very thin layer of buttercream on them or order them smaller and get the exact size like I would with a regular cake that shrinks a bit when you bake it.

I hope this makes sense.....TIA!

Think of it like this. If someone ordered a cake in those sizes, would you make the next size smaller to account for the extra fondant, etc? I say get the actual size. HTH :)
