The bands around the cake tiers, are they fondant treated with tylose?  Anyone know?

I would guess they are fondant mixed with gumpaste or tylose to get them to stand up. Beautiful cake!

I would guess that there isn't real cake underneath..........which makes that look much simpler to pull off.

You could get that look with modeling chocolate.
