I have been presented with a challenge.  A friend has asked me to make the Groom's cake for her son.  He is a big hunter so I originally thought he would want something with hunting.  Well, the only thing he has said he wants (said this over and over) is a Pineapple Upside Down Cake.  I really could use some ideas on how to make a Pinapple Upside Down Cake look nice for a wedding.  Also, will need it to feed around 150.

Any help / ideas would be greatly appreciated!  I am not an expert decorator by any means.

Thank you!

Do a pineapple buttercream on it and decorate it like you normally would? I love pineapple upside down cake, but I have never looked at it and thought it was pretty. lol. Good luck!

I googled for a pretty pineapple upside down cake and this was the best, in my opinion, in the internets

have you thought of doing individual ones like this one?  i think they look so cute

You say you need it for 150 people.  usually, when there are grooms cakes they are usually a different flavor from the wedding cake, usually chocolate but this is not the rule, so people can have a choice of cakes.  Maybe you don't have to make one for 150 people?

I love the pretty one. I retracted my previous statement about them never being pretty. Never heard of the groom's cake being chocolate but whatever flavor the groom wants since the wedding cake is usually what the bride wants.

I'd be doing a white layer cake with a pineapple upside down filling (a pineapple take on a bananas foster letting the syrup soak into the cake), top it with more of the syrup, then cover the whole with a pineapple whipped frosting using Charlott's whipped recipe in a rustic style with just a bit more of the pineapple syrup drizzled over the top.

If I was doing it for myself I'd be adding some maple syrup into the pineapple foster.  But that's just me, cuz I think that pineapple and maple were made for each other in the same way oranges and bittersweet chocolate were made for each other.
