I'm trying to make the doctor lab coat/ shirt and tie cake and I cannot figure out how to do the shirt colar or the lapels for the lab coat.  If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.  It's for tomorrow and I'm starting to freak out.  Thanks!!

AHi sue!

When I did my cake here's what I did Taper the top corners of the cake for the shoulders/neck Covered cake in fondant I then cut a rectangle of fondant that was the width of my cake 9" x 2" cut a 45 degree angle at each end (points facing the same way) Then I added a Stiching detail around the edges Take rectangle and wrap it around top neck portion of cake points facing down. Your shirt collar is done you can cut some small circles for buttons

When i did a cake for a dr. I just did scrubs but you could probably just make the collar wider

Hope this helps

AFor me, the collar was The hardest part!

I used a bucket of gumpaste since it was the same dimension I needed to get the nice curve.

I rolled the fondant & cut it about 4" wide. I needed about 19" in length. I then tucked about 1/4" under as I wrapped around the bucket to form the collar. Very carefully & quickly, I moved it to the top of the cake. Moving quickly, I Ickes that same 1/4" as I moved the rest of the fondant in place. I then used an exactly knife to cut the lapel.

Now the first time I do that, I didn't quite cut the second lapel side the same size & shape. On my second attempt, I used the first cut out to mark the second. That way they were exactly the same. [IMG][/IMG]
