I'm doing a friends cake & have done teirs using SPS but she's asked for a "spacer". I was planning on this construction-does it sound correct & stable?
14" on base-insert 11" SPS
11" cake on cake board-insert 6" SPS
6"styro spacer
8" cake on foamcore-doweled thru the styro to the SPS
6" SPS
6" cake

Will this balance okay without the center dowel if I finish assembly at the site?!
It will... it's only going to overhang 1" all the way around, but use the dowel or a skewer if you'd feel better about it. Either way, I'd at least use a smear of BC or chocolate there.
