AHello bakers

I'm a beginning baker and have been for about a year now. And I don't know if anyone else feel this way but every cake I have done I find something wrong with it yet my friends and family think they're amazing 8| I seen in my pictures over the months I have progressed but there's always something I don't like about each one. Does anyone else feel this way?

Happy baking ;)

It's a fairly common reaction.  Keep in mind that when you can pick the faults in your own cakes you are able to use this knowledge to keep improving.  So use it in a positive manner and don't get too hung up on the fact that your cake is not perfect.

Yes!!.  It's sort of like when you have a teeny, tiny, practically invisible blemish on your one sees it but you because it's YOUR face.  When we are making our creations we always see things that no one else would notice.  Also, I tend to compare my work to people who have been doing cakes for many, many years.  So always remember, we are our own worst critics.

Oh hello, here I am! LOL

In RLB's Cake Bible, she points out that every cake has flaws. It's cake, after all. She takes her students to a bakery and asks them to look at the professional cakes with their own critical eyes and they are shocked to see  the flaws that they never noticed before.

That being said, there are always cakes that don't feel right. Rest assured that no one else will feel the same way, except for my sister, but lucky for you, she only orders cakes from me...

FYI, I made my father's b-day cake this weekend. I HATE making that cake. It's a cake he remembers from his childhood and it's YUK! Pineapple and so much powdered sugar. The frosting barely sets up and when it does, it's just a lumpy mess. But he LOVES it, and that's something, at least.
