Any suggestions on how to keep ribbon sticking to cake board? I have glue, double sided tape, gum glue and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?
I always use a hot glue gun and it sticks with no problem. Just make sure you don't get too far ahead or the glue will cool off before the ribbon can adhere well. It also helps if you lay down your glue as thin as you can. Seems like those big clumps of glue are what cause problems.
I've also used those glue dots that come on a strip as well.
Why on earth aren't any of those working? Especially double sided tape? That should be a no fail option. Do you have shortening on the edge of your board by chance?
Hi Cutter2002
I use PRITT STICK which is strong enough to band a cake board, Apply glue evenly around the edge of board and then attach ribbon - stretching it slightly to smooth it on. PRITT STICK dosn't stain the ribbon, which can happen if using a liquid glue or thinned out royal icing!
Hope this helps!

I've never heard of the pritt stick before. I looked it up and it's a glue stick...which I've never had luck with...but I've not used this one. Does it compare to the others or is it different in some way?
I dip the entire ribbon in sugar glue that i make....
hold one end over sink and with other hand run two fingers down the ribbon and get rid of excess...
place ribbon around fondant covered board.....
Allow to sit for a day..... No way will that ribbon come off ... unless you use a chizzle loll
I attached every thing on my cakes - cake boards - cake stands using just sugar glue.
No smell - no toxins....
Sugar Glue
equal parts water and castor sugar
Bring to the boil
Boil for about 2 minutes
Tip into sterilized jar
Keeps in fridge for 3 weeks.

Thanks to all who responded! The hot glue gun worked like a miracle. I had used double sided tape, "fondant glue", regular glue. None worked. Pins worked but really don't like using pins. I make my own cake board gluing 3 cardboard circles together and then covering in paper of choice with clear sticky paper. So maybe the rough edge is why nothing worked. I don't know WHY I didn't think of the glue gun. Worked great! Thanks!
I usually just pin the ribbon at the back to the board, always pull the ribbon really tight though. I find using glue and other methods don't always leave you with neat results. I've also just started using a site called www.bakingit.com which you might find useful. I use it all the time now, especially when working on larger cake projects, it helps to calculate how much ribbon I will need as I always buy too much.
