Edible Image Printer Troubles

Hi Everyone! I have been out of the CakeCentral loop for quite some time now. After staying home for 11 years and doing cakes at home, I took a full time job for the last 4 years decorating at a local chain store. I am proud to say that I recently left the store position to come back home to decorating.


I have almost as many cake toys here at home as I did working for the store.  I have a Canon ip1500 dedicated to edible image printing. I used to use it all the time. I would like to get it back online if possible, and just got in my supplies to get it setup up again today. I have taken it apart and cleaned and cleaned the print head (brand new ink is almost gone!), and I cannot clear the clog!


My question is, does anyone have a trick to cleaning a stubborn printer clog? Or is it even worth trying to get this printer working again? I have considered getting my husband to buy me a new printer for Christmas, but I haven't decided. Any suggestions or advice appreciated, thank you!

Thinking of just starting over with a new printer, anyone have a Canon MG5220? Considering this model

IDK about the clog but I would think you could just replace the print head as an alternative.  However, printers like the Canon IP3600 are only about $80 with free shipping on Amazon.com (this is the one I use).  May just be easier to start over :)

AI considered replacing the print head. But that option simply didn't seem cost effective. I haven't used my printer in well over a year, maybe 2 yrs or more. The ink cartridges have been out of the printer, the more I tried to clean it, even removed the print head and cleaned it seperately, the worse it was printing. Also concerned about wasting ink, as the ip1500 I currently have uses the 2 cartridge system and if one color runs out but other 2 are still usable, you still have to replace the entire color cartridge. I had ordered brand new cartidges to get it restarted. I went through $30 worth of ink yesterday trying to fix the problem.

I do believe there will soon be a new printer in my future!

If it has been that long, dont even bother. The printhead is most likely unsalvageable, the cartridges are probably dried up and there are other htings that can also effect your older printer.  It is out of date and there are better printers out that will be a better use of your time and money!  Make sure though that if you decide to buy another printer, then you really should make sure you are going to use it.  You need to be printing once every week to two weeks to keep the printer happy, otherwise, do not make the investment.  The cartridges have also changed, the ones that we sell are sponge free and offer you a lot more ink then a traditional sponged printer. Plus there are seperate ink tanks which allow you to change only the color that is out.  You will absolutely love it.  You should send us your email address and we will be able to send coupons as well to help save a little bit of money!
