Hi! So this is the first time I'll be selling a large amount of cupcakes at once (although I have no idea how many people will be there). I was wondering, what's a low price way to make my cupcakes look festive and stand out from the other cake vendors? And how much should I charge for them? (Fondants and expensive decorations are out of the question). Is there anyone with any experience selling at bazaars, farmers markets, etc? Any advice on what to expect and things like that would be greatly appreciated. :D

I just did a vendor fair with my sister and although it was a small event, we did pretty good.  We WAY over baked, but had fun and learned a lot. 


Do you have any idea how many people might attend, or know someone who did the show last year?  How do you plan on selling your cupcakes, individually, or in groups?  What do you feel are your best cakes, and how how many flavors do you plan on having there.


We had all our signature, fancier cupcakes with us.  We each made 4 different kinds, but it was too many to choose from.  I think having 3-4 cupcakes to choose from is plenty. I would charge a flat rate per cupcake.  We did them all at $2 a piece.  We sold them to eat there, and also for them to take home.  We had containers that held 1, 4, 6, and 12 cupcakes.  We sold the 12 packs for $22.  We do more than cupcakes so we had some other desserts there as well.  I made a couple of cheesecakes, and we also had cookies, gooey butter cake, and some banana bread.  We sold out of the cookies.  We sold them 2 for a $1, and I think next time I'll do a bigger cookie and sell them for $1 a piece. 


I would make a pretty display, have order forms, business cards, and prices clearly stated.  I would do 2 holiday cupcakes...maybe a white chocolate cranberry cupcakes with a cream cheese frosting, chocolate truffle cupcake, red velvet, or Italian cream cake.  Anything salted caramel goes over well too, and 2 regular cupcakes.  Personally I'd do full batches of all of them.  If you have leftovers, do you have something to do with them?  I was lucky.  We had a bake sale at my work that started the next day.  My husband also had a potluck at work so with the extras, I either donated them or sent them with him.  I also sent some in for my daughter's teachers are preschool, so all the extras found homes. 


We handed our card out a lot and schmoozed.  I think it went over well overall.  Good luck!!!

I have no estimate of how many people may attend, even after asking around for a few days. I'll have cupcakes individually, and in packs of 1,4,6, and maybe 12. I think my chocolate base cupcakes are the best, and so I think I'll have chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with vanilla and chocolate buttercream options for both as well as a red velvet with cream cheese. (I'm still a sophmore in high school with only about an year of experience and I don't really the time nor expertise to make anything too fancy yet). I was originally thinking around $1.50 each, do you think I could get away with bumping it up to $2 or should I stick with my original pricing? How much did you end up making, and how much were you left with?


I have a display ready to go although I'm not sure what I'm going to do about business cards, I don't really have much of a business going on although I occasionally make some money baking for classmates' birthday parties. What (regular) cupcakes did you make, and which ones sold the most? I was thinking of doing ~100 vanilla, ~120 chocolate, ~80 red velvet, am I overbaking? The bazaar is 7 hours and I didn't want to run out in the first 4. I can always sell off the rest to my peers at a cheaper price and send them to school with my siblings.
