I'm being stupid, but I am a novice baker and wank to make this cake for a friend.

First stupid question, it's supposed to be ivory but when I used Wltons Ivory gel on white rolled fondant.. I got a big batch of peach fondant!

Second question... how can I get my cake to have the same sheen as the one in the pic? I tried pearl dust but it isn't giving me the same effect.. is there somethign else I should be doing?

I don't have a lot of experience with ivory fondant (although I know you can purchase it pre-tinted ivory). But for the sheen, how are you applying your luster dust? Are you mixing it with vodka or an extract and painting it on? That will give you a nice sheen on your accents. Hope that helps!

The sheen is probably airbrushed on. It has a nice even coating with no brush marks, so I'd say air brushed.

As for your ivory problem... you just added too much color. Try taking a small piece and adding an equal amount of white. If it is still peachy, add more white. If it is still peachy then the wilton ivory has too much red in it. Add a tiny bit of yellow and see where that gets you (this will also help when making a light brown). Do your experiments on small pieces and when you find what works... do that to the whole lot.

In the future, Americolor ivory is a wonderful shade of ivory that is not too red so you won't end up with what looks like silly putty. I generally don't like the wilton colors.

As a novice, you probably do not have an airbrush - try canned lustre spray

it works beautifully. Just like when you spray paint, you need to do several THIN coats so it doesnt go on too think and drip.

You want to use Super Pearl Dust. I get it from Global Sugar art in the large 4 oz container.

If you apply it dry, you get a nice soft peal sheen.
If you want it shiny, the take a small amount of vodka and mix it with the vodka (like a thin paint). It will really shine.

For the cake you showed I would dry dust the cake and wet paint the sash
