I live in a small town 50 south of Pittsburgh PA and am searching for a fellow cake decorator in pittsburgh or the surrounding area that is willing take a new decorator under their wing and teach a thing or two. Noone in my area works with fondant so I'm hoping someone in the city won't mind helping someone that would not be selling in their area! I would be willing to pay!
Hi! I'm from the Pittsburgh area, too....I'm 45 miles northeast, so I'm in the complete opposite direction. I wish I could help you with the fondant but that's an area that I need some work in myself! For some reason, fondant really hasn't caught on in my neck of the woods so I don't have a lot of opportunity to practice it. I can make a nice fondant bow and some simple flowers but that's about it! I think it's one of those things that you just need to practice...I'm completely self-taught (Toba Garrett is my hero! I've learned pretty much everything from her books) so for me it's a matter of forcing myself to spend a few weekends working with it. I keep hoping for some snow days where I can't make my commute into Pittsburgh so that I have an entire day trapped in the house to do this kind of stuff. It's suppose to snow tonight so maybe tomorrow will be a good day to play! Good luck! I hope that someone can help you.
How close is Morgantown WV to you? Not sure I am much help but would love to get together for a day of sharing.
