I really don't know if this will make any sense, but I want to make cakes that I can make my own icing toppers for - eg smurfs, hello kitty etc. but my question is about the cake itself. Do you just make a normal sponge for example a Victoria sponge recipe? I'm unsure because in a Victoria sponge the cake is Halford for the filling. I want to make just a one tier cake so does it matter that I don't have a filling?
