Hi everyone, I am in desperate need of suggestions of what to use to make fish scales on a sculpted fish. I tried the decorator tip but didn't like the way it turned out so i ripped all the fondant off and is ready to start over with another idea. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
How about gelatin? I am a newbie but have watched tutorials on how you make it and can then cut it with scissors. You can tint it or leave it clear. Would be very realistic looking I would think! Spread a thin sheet of it, leave it to dry and then make them scalloped on a solid row or individual. Should attach to fondant or buttercream.
Cool idea for the scales. I've used gelatin and a hole puncher to make sequins, but never thought of fish scales. In the past I've used one of those drink/spoon straws to imprint on fondant, but now I'm wanting to make another fish to try this technique!

I'm not sure what you mean by "I tried the decorator tip." If you can't do gelatin, could you cut circles out of fondant with an icing tip and overlap them on the cake? Or is that what you tried? One can also use the "paper" punches; I would wipe them down with alcohol first so your fondant is still food-safe.
