I am just an at home baker that makes cakes sometimes for friends. I had a request for a 12x18 2 layer sheet cake with chocolate filling. She would like vanilla cake with chocolate filling. I do not have a recipe for a chocolate icing. I usually just use store bought if I do anything chocolate, but I would like to make my own. Should I do a chocolate buttercream or chocolate ganache. Please help. Thanks so much.

This is what I do: Make a batch of buttercream and add 1 can of store bought fudge frosting to the buttercream. Mix very well. I also add 1 tsp of butter flavoring. I think it tastes good. I can't seem to get a good chocolate flavor totalloy from scratch.

I just made a cake with chocolate filling - I used the Sprinkles Cupcake Bakery chocolate frosting recipe - it was delicious. You can google it and get the recipe.
HTH!
