Anyone have a quick recipe for a caramel frosting or filling that uses ice cream sundae type caramel from a jar? I had to buy it for something and wanted another use for it!!
Would the smucker's caramel be thick enough to fill a cake with buttercream underneath and a dam?
I don't think it's thick enough to use on it's own under bc, even with a dam.
I use a salted caramel bc as a filling and frosting. When I make it, I replace 1/2 the liquid with caramel sauce. I make my own caramel sauce but you could certainly do the same thing with the Smuckers.
I've mixed dried fruit and nuts (craisins, apples, pecans, walnuts) into Smuckers caramel topping. Lots of fruit/nuts so the caramel barely holds it together. A spoonful of the mixture sits atop muffins. Also works if the pieces are small and drizzled over the tops of iced cupcakes. It's delicious. When I was experimenting, it was so good I ate it all with a spoon and had to make more.
This makes a wonderful caramel swiss meringue butter cream. Add 1/4 cup caramel to the frosting. http://allrecipes.com/PersonalRecipe/63103962/Swiss-Meringue-Butter-Cream-Three-Ways/Detail.aspx
