..... I wonder who is the cake decorator she will get to sign such a thing. Most likely a newbie who is desperate for wedding cake business. Haven't seen any photos of weddings yet going up on her fbk page. Only see an occasional post about advice on wedding cake colour combinations. Waiting to see some actual evidence of a wedding done and which suppliers giving up that 15% and signing a crazy contract.
Event planners are usually people who can't make it doing anything else. I've been in the industry many years and I've seen them come and go. This new nitwit will knock herself out of the ring. (Her next career will be as an assistant store manager at the mall.)

I would feel very uncomfortable giving this person this much control over my business. There are some scary people out there who will do anything to ruin your reputation and business. And as someone mentioned before, you are the one responsible for the cake even if it's not what the bride wanted. But since the planner is calling the shots there isn't a clear line of communication.
Wow, was that what the thread was about? Can we get back on topic please? That's why threads get locked and deleted because one person says something someone doesn't agree with, then the topic just dissolves into everybody agreeing they disagree with it.
SO, there is no freaking way I am giving anybody but the IRS a chunk of my money like that. She can take a flying leap.

Yeah, I was a department manager at a store in Boston and I made a heck of a lot more than I do making cakes! Plus, I could go home at night and not have work to do every single freakin' day. (am I bitter that I have to go bake on the 4th of July while everyone else has a holiday...Maybe a little.)
And the OP is right that the person who signs something like that is going to be a newbie who's desperate for the business. Although if they're not allowed to tell anyone that they're making the cake it won't help their business in the long run anyway.

I have to agree with all the other "run away" posts on this thread. I have no problem working with bridal planners, in fact, I like working with them. But I never let them get between me and my customer. That direct contact with the bride is the only way I can adequately design and price her dream cake. And the planners that refer me do so because they know I will show up on time with a flawless cake.
We do have one of "those" planners in the area though - her service is free to the bride, and the vendors she suggests have to pay her per referral. I love it when a bride uses her but rejects her recommended cake people (which are all unlicensed, BTW) and insist that they get the cake from me!
A reputable wedding planner will not require nor ask for commission to vendors who she suggests to her clients. I am a Certified Wedding Specialist with Weddings Beautiful and this practice is highly frowned upon. Planners who have such associations with vendors are shady at best.

There is a full service caterer here he does all the decor, food, tables, chairs he handles the flowers and has some REALLY ugly cakes. We've all wondered who does his cakes... My guess is that he has a similar arrangement, she's/he's the secret baker and if anyone else does the cake at the brides request we have to have someone there to serve the cake and provide all the plates and utensils, which I do (lol) which makes him
