Fish On A Board

I'm making a fish on a board (all cake, the 'cutting board' is 11x15), but I'm not too sure how to put the fish on there. Should the fish be on a separate piece of cardboard? or can/should I somehow put the fish directly onto the other cake? if so, how do I do this??

I did a fish on a cake "cutting board". The fish was seperate and on its own cake board cut to fit. I put a few dowels under it and placed on top of the cake. Its in my photos if you would like to see.
