I am wanting to try Mascarpone in a buttercream. Can I substitute it for cream cheese in a cream cheese buttercream? Does anything need to be changed in the recipe? Thanks!

I would think so, but just be aware that it's very soft. I really like mascarpone. It's kind of sweet on its own, but very expensive!

Thanks for the reply. I have wanted to try it because I see it used so much on the Food Network shows. I bought some and the cost is way to much for me as a hobby baker. I just want to make sure I use it right the first time! icon_biggrin.gif

I have only ever used it for tiramisu or tiramisu filling for a cake. It is very expensive but it is so silky and delicious!

See if a local wholesaler will sell to you. Here, mascarpone at the grocery store is like $8 for 8oz (last time I checked 3 years ago!) and I can get a 5# tub for $20 from my wholesaler.
