Rustic Wooden Cake Stand

Hello. I have someone requesting a cake on a rustic wooden cake stand (the type Pinterest is making very popular!). They are providing the stand.

I know a lot of you have used these. Do you just put the cake directly on the wood? They appear that way in most photos I've seen. That doesn't seem safe to me. Then again, I put wooden dowel inside cakes, so now I'm confused!

No, I wouldn't. I ice each cake on its own board and transfer to the final presentation board, plate, drum, plateau, etc.

I always put each cake on a cake board and then put the cake board on the stand, securing it with double-stick tape.
