I was asked to make a butterfly cake for a friend's daughter for her birthday. I do not have a butterfly cake pan and really don't want to purchase one to make just this one cake. I do have a sheet cake pan, would I be able to do something with this?? Does anyone have any picture's or tutorials on how to do this without a butterfly cake pan???
Or maybe a template??
Thank you for any help! =)
Hmmm...how about a loaf pan for the middle and 4 small round (two for each wing). You could make the middle (loaf pan) thinner if needed and use unused portion for a round head. Also, I would trim off the round cakes where they meet the body, and where the upper and lower wings meet. Hope this is not too confusing....
Another idea would be to make your sheet cake as usual...frost, and then free hand a butterfly and decorate, so you have a picture of a butterfly on your usual sheet cake. Good Luck...sounds fun!!

This is one of the cutest butterfly cakes I've seen and it's made with a round cake pan.
