How Do I Get The Look Of Shiney Chrome Like For A Bumper?
Decorating By charleezgal Updated 3 Dec 2011 , 5:26pm by abchambers
I'm making a car cake this weekend and wanted to make the chrome look like chrome. I have some silver dust, but I'm not sure if that's what you use, and if so, how to do it. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Teresa
Are you using fondant? If you are, use a steamer and it gives it a sheen.
I like using silver luster dust mixed with vodka painted on light gray fondant, it looks metallic when finished.
I do the same for gold color to, it looks awesome on a cake, using ivory or yellow fondant.

Yes, I'm using fondant. You mean I can use my iron and set it to steam and just wave it over the finished cake for the shine?
I suppose the iron could work if you don't have just a steamer. Steam it just long enough to give it some sheen, but not melt it.
