My aunt gave me some used baking pans the 8, 10 in. and 12 in. rounds. Eventually I want a set of Magic Line, but these came from her husbands uncle who owned a commercial bakery so they are very nice pans. I know I dont need a heating core on the 8 in.
I just got done making two 10-in. rounds. I used the Wilton's large metal flower nail and the cakes came out perfectly! Only took about forever like 40 minutes to bake tho, so I definitely need to remember esp with the larger pans to get doubles. Also I figured out it takes exactly 1 box of cake mix per 10 in. layer to get perfect height of the pan lol!
Will one flower nail be enough of a core for a 12 in. round tho? Or do I have to buy the larger "real" heating core I saw in my cake store? Or some other homemade implement I can use? Or should I use both flower nails maybe (I have both and used the larger nail for the 10 in. cakes)? Or will the one larger nail be enough since I think the 12 in. cooks at a lower temp for longer time?
Hi, Price. I usually grease and flour it just like the pan. Then I stand it upside down with the point up in the middle of the pan. Pour in the batter and bake at 325 for a bit longer than it usually takes. Comes out perfect. I have used this in my own 11x15's with no problems.
HTH,
Tanya
