Can I talk about a specific brand? I actually just want to know what I need to look for in a mixer. They can get pretty expensive so I don't want to get more than I need.

I am pretty sure what brand I want, the most popular brand but what kind of wattage am I looking for? I would like to get one that I can buy attachments for to make pastas and all kinds of other things but I will just basically use it in place of a handheld electric mixer.

I'd recommend getting the most wattage and biggest bowl you can afford. I'd also recommend a Cuisinart or Viking. Or, even better yet, scour Craigslist for an old, old KitchenAid. The old ones are great. The new ones, well, not so much.
