The sides of a regular hexagon are half of the diameter as measured from corner to corner, so each side of a 16" hexagon pan would be 8" long.
To find the diameter from side to side you can divide the hexagon into equilateral triangles with sides of 8", the diameter is equal to the height of two of the triangles. Using the Pythagorean theorem, the height of each triangle is 6.93", so the side-to-side diameter is 13.86".
