my daughter is in the church choir and next Sunday evening they have their first play and after we are giving them a casting party. I am doing the cake for it. I want to make is cool for the kids, but running out of ideas. I thought maybe a sheet cake like a stage and the kids on there with the name of the play on a neon sign, like broadway. Making 15 fondant kids is a lot of work though and time is not on my side. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! It needs to feed 75 people. Thanks!
What is the play? Fifteen figures sounds daunting. Will they be in costume? Sounds like a good challenge for you.
Here's a cake that I did for a dancer....

I wanted to do something to capture her on the stage but....? So I settled on cutting out a fondant/gumpaste silhouette and using a wooden stick covered with chocolate on the back of the cutout to position her vertically on a "stage." What started out as a challenging request turned out to be quite easy to do. Maybe you can come up with something conceptual rather than totally realistic to convey the idea to your audience. Good luck with your project!
Cut a lot of little faces and mouths and simple figure dresses and pants and put them on top of a sheet cake. Flat decorations will be faster and they will still be cute. If you want to, you could have musical notes around the sheet cake and/or the names of the kids scattered around the sides.

Oooh I like the names of the kids scattered on the sides! It will make it even more personal for them!
Thank you for all the ideas! I am definitely putting the names scattered on the side, I will post next week after it is finished
Well the cake is finished!! I put edible stars on the sides with all their names on it. Made a sign with their logo, tried to make it look like a broadway neon sign and then I actually made all 16 of the kids. They were excited to pick themselves out. Itried to make them look like they were dancing, but it didnt work out so good. It is uploaded in my gallery now. Thank you all for the ideas!!!
