Help!!! My Cake Keeps Sinking While In The Oven!!!
Baking By colabear71 Updated 8 Oct 2011 , 12:10am by All4Show
I am trying to make the recipe listed below:
Orange Dreamsicle - MacsMom
2 boxes white cake mix
2 c melted orange sherbet
2/3 c OJ or diet orange soda
2 c flour
1-3/4 c sugar
1-1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 c sour cream
9 egg whites
1/4 c oil
1 T orange extract
I have tried the recipe twice now, and I am using a 14" round pan, with a nail in the center. I have searched for any ideas and have even tried lowering the amount of sugar to 1 1/2 cups. I am not opening the oven door until the time is up, I have a thermometer in the oven and know the temperature is correct. I have tried both 325 and 350 degrees baking temps.
Please, anyone, if you have any suggestions?? I hate wasting ingredients and time!!!
TIA,
Kim
I think most people would say 1 flower nail isn't enough for a 14"cake...I've not made a cake that big so I can't say with any authority...just an opinion.
The biggest round I have made is 10" and I used 1 nail. I have read a couple posts where they suggest 2 or 3 once you hit or go over the 10" mark.
I have made this cake many times and it NEVER bakes the same each time! It's a very fickle recipe! I too have had problems with it caving in in the middle of the cake. Don't open the oven door to check on the cake..that's one of my problems. Too much sugar, I've heard can cause sinking. How much batter did you put in each pan?
