Has anyone had success with this tool? Bought one and just used it on a trial cake and it did not work well. I put my two layers in the freezer for a couple of hours as I thought that would prevent it from crumbling but I still ended up with an uneven cut. Any tips would be greatly appreciated as I really need to use it next week and am running out of time to practice with it.
Thanks for all the great info on this board - everyone is so helpful.

I have this and have been using it for a few months now. How I have found that works best is to leave my cake layer on the cooling rack and then adjust the height on the leveler to adjust for that height. Then, hold the cake with one hand and the top of the leveler with the other and saw it back and forth as you push forward. When you get to the opposite side slow down and go nice and easy. I even usually place my hand right where the leveler will come out on the cake to make sure it does not tear it. I don't think it should be so difficult but it is what it is! HTH
