Hi....this is my first time posting here. My son decided that he wanted a Space themed birthday party. I am trying to figure out the cake. So here's what I'm thinking......black airbrushed cake, white icing for stars, yellow sun in the bottom corner and I would like to make the 8 planets and line them across the diagonal. So here's my problem - I thought I'd use fondant for the planets. Is that doable? I have never used fondant before and am a little nervous. Someone mentioned to me that it may get heavy and so I should put the planets on cake board and use dowels to support it? I was wondering if anyone had suggestions here on how to make planets. I want a 3-d effect....so I'm thinking either dome shaped or spheres. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
How big are you thinking of having the planets?
Is the cake covered in fondant or buttercream?
Is it possible to do the planets in Krispie treats or styrofoam?
Just some food for thought
