funny about the dog! my dog is too little to reach the counters thank goodness! but i have a friend who does cakes and she told me years ago, her dog jumped in the car right on a full sheet cake she was getting ready to deliver. she had to make another in a hurry.
There are so many of us that "feel your pain" and thankfully we can laugh after we have calmed down.
As far as having a pet in the house I baked cakes for a long time with my dogs in the house. I keep a clean house and a clean kitchen. I've yet to find dog hair in a cake.
For all of the squeamish people who think it's terrible to have a pet in the house - don't ever go out to eat! You would be totally shocked at what is in the kitchens of restaurants. I'll take a dog any day.
If it makes you feel any better our dog ate my husbands wedding band. We have since bought a new one since my hubby would not go check out the back yard. This time we made sure it was a cheap band since the first one cost $300.

I definitely feel your pain. My very first wedding cake, many years ago, was munched on by a dog. The reception was at the brides house and they never even told me they had a dog. I waited until it was just about time for them to arrive and I took out the bottom tier of the cake then I went inside for the top tier. When I came out the door the dog was on the table having a good ol' time. I was crushed. It didn't help any that the man that was sitting in the corner of the yard making bbq was laughing his butt off! I could hardly talk I was crying so hard when they came home.
Luckily he hadn't eaten much and the people were pretty easy going!
yep..it happend to me too! this one was in a cake box on the table..i found this and a weenie dog with a orange face:
dog was fine, just had the runs for the rest of the day.
I don't have dogs but did have a really fat cat once (29 pounds - see my avatar) anyway, though he never ate anything at my house, once when we were at my MIL for christmas he jumped up on the counter and ate a whole stick of butter!!! ![]()

Let me tell you he had such a shiny coat! ![]()
OMG I'm laughing so hard. Between the dogs and cats eating cakes and butter to Mathew
(he's so dreamy) I can't stop giggling. On a side note, I don't have animals in the house but I do have children, which are little animals in their own right. My kids are known for getting caught trying to take bites out of sides of cake. My 20 month old just got busted 2 days ago actually. He pulled a tiny kids plastic chair into the kitchen and got caught eating some decorated birthday cookies. When I yelled CAMERON, he jumped and looked startled! He then slowly put the licked cookie with a small bite out of it back on the cooling rack and got down quickly moved the chair and slowly walked away. HE THEN CAME RIGHT BACK and looked at me with his chubby little face and crumbs on his hands and acted like he just got there and I imagined the whole thing.
