I'm working ideas for a cake, and the client is thinking about standing a drum up on its side. Is there a way to do this without using rice krispie treats and without the cake looking squashed or cracking? It also has to travel about 40 minutes. Thanks!!
Best bet is to stack cake layers, then carve the drum shape. Make two identical round templates and place them on each side of the stacked cake.
You'll have to leave the bottom (touching the cake board) flat, but it won't be noticeable. Depending on the size of the drum, only a couple of inches on the bottom need to be flat.
Drive two sharpened dowels through the drum at opposite angles so they penetrate the cake board.
