I saw on a website someone made cupcake kabobs with skewers. They put marshmallows and tiny cupcakes on skewers with other goodies.

Has anyone done this? Thoughts on good cake flavor mixes? My niece's first birthday is in October and we are doing a Candy Store theme. I think this would be really fun and cute. The cupcakes were not frosted so I want to make sure the cakes I choose will be enough on their own.

That sounds like a cool idea for the party theme you are planning! Choose chocolate and strawberry cakes for a nice color and flavor contrast maybe? Be sure to post pictures!!!

Sounds like a great idea, but my first thought was small kids and pointy things (skewers). Not sure if that would be a concern or not. How old are the kids?

I did something similar for my son's 8th birthday. I had the same concern with 8 year old boys & pointy sticks! If you have kitchen scissors, you can cut the points off the wooden kabobs (be careful, the tips went flying across my kitchen!)

You can make rainbow colored batter and that would look great without any icing!

I'd look at other options for skewers too...how about Pixie Sticks, licorice sticks, pretzel rods? They don't need to be super long because each child WILL eat a whole one! And maybe more! Have fun and good luck!
