Does anyone know how to make the vertical spatula marks? I am thinking it is after the cake is iced, then maybe heat the spatula...........dont know.......Help!
I just did several (1 cakes with vertical spatula marks. I used SMBC. All I did was put on a second coat of buttercream and got it lightly smooth around the sides (completely smooth on the top) and took my small Wilton spatula and dragged it up the sides of the cake. I did a small bead border on the top and bottom.
I think it looks classic and elegant and is quite easy to do. I've never tried it with a crusting buttercream.
So you got the first layer of buttercream on, smoothed it and then added another layer to do the vertical marks?
