I'm looking for good sugar recipes. I had my grandma's and loved it but I lost it and have no way of getting it back.
I am looking for alternatives.
Thanks,
Kelley
I like to use either the wilton recipe. But my most favorite is Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie you buy at Walmart $1.22. It calls for one egg, 1 stick of butter and 2 tblsp of flour. It bakes very nicely. I use it for cut out cookies with the cookie cutters and the cookies on the sticks. (wilton cookie pans) Try it you won't be disappointed. ![]()

Funny you should mention the Betty Crocker stuff, dank, I tried that just a couple days ago. I didn't really like it though as it spread on me too much. Did it spread for you? I followed the cut-out directions on the back of the package and chilled the dough thoroughly. My heart cookies looked like butt cookies, hahaha! LOL. ![]()
You can try these but they are soft and do not like cookie cutters. The tops are kind of wrinkled when they are done but they are very good. This recipe was from my husband's mom and has been passed down through the family.
Sugar Cookies
1 cup butter softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
Cream until light and fluffy. Then add:
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 cups plus 2 Tablespoons flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
Mix then roll into balls (size?) Roll dough into sugar, place on baking sheet and bake 10 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
I roll the balls about 1 inch across in size. They don't need refrigerated before rolling into balls and don't need flatted before baking.
I did try to chill the dough and roll it out, but the tops were not smooth. I don't know if adding another tablespoon or 2 of flour would help.
