Gun Cake?

I realize that within our industry sometimes we get some unusual requests. A friend of mine asked me to make a "gun cake" for his birthday.

I am not even sure where to begin. I have very little experience in carving cake. I had him send me a pic of the gun he had in mind...I'm not sure if it's even possible for me. But he's willing to pay decent money if I can get it right.

Any suggestions?

I can only imagine putting it on its side and carving the shape from that angle, and building up with the scraps for the barrel area. Cant think of a way you'd get it to stand it you built it standing up...
