when you are using rice krispy treats for carved elements on a cake do you put the fondant directly over the treats or do have to put something on first. how do u get a really smooth finish? im making a full size baseball cap for a grooms cake .the cap will have to be made a couple of days ahead if possible. if anyone has done this, some tips would sure be appreciated. thanks

I make a cement like buttercream to cover rice krispie treats. so it fills any bumps nicely. just keep adding PS until its super thick.

Ganache works well too, you can get it nice and smooth and it makes the structures solid. You just have to brush the ganache with hot water before covering with fondant to help it stick.

I've used melted chocolate or modeling chocolate.
