Can Anybody Help Me Make Trees??? (Not Pine Trees)

I am making a river rafting scene. I have to make the woods. I can make pine trees all day long, but how do I make "regular" tall trees with leaves? This cake will have a fruit filling, and last time I made trees with pretzel rods they got all soggy and fell over. 
Any suggestions? Thank you much!

Can you try to coat the bottom of the rods in chocolate before you put them in the cake to keep moisture out? Not sure if that would hellp or not.

I tried this a few weeks ago....all I got was manky brown rice krispies 
Dang really? They look really good on the website! Maybe there's some trick with letting the chocolate harden a bit when you dip them.
