Didn't Share A Recipe; Lost A Customer

Wow, that is crazy! Too bad you didn't have a horrible recipe in your pocket with 20 different ingredients and 50 tiny steps!
Hahahahaha! That lady is insane! How rude!! You did NOTHING wrong....If bakers revealed their recipes with the public then there wouldn't be half as many bakers in business. She had some nerve! You didn't loose a customer, you actually saved your self from a nutty person ordering something from you and making your life stressful! What would've been next was she would've asked for twice as much work for a fraction of the price....I'm sure everyone witnessing her tantrum agreed with you.
You did the right thing...
I read the thread titale and just knew I was reading it wrong. That is about the craziest thing I EVER heard! One of my closest friends shared a recipe swearing me to never to share it. I have had several people ask me for this recipe and told them no. NO one got upset about it.
Sure, Flour, Sugar, Eggs, Vanilla and talent. That is my recipe. Now you go figure out the measurements like I did.
It was just a shock to you that she was so spoiled and had to show off her bad manners just to get attention. I would have laughed so loud at her rantings, that people would have laughed with me because they would have thought that they were on tv. Just kidding, but I would have laughed a lot and that would have ticked her off more.
Perhaps, a simple "Oh, I am sorry. My secret recipe cookbook has not been published yet."
I would love to have some of the most amazing recipes. I might even ask for it. You smile and say thank you but no, I would understand. Sharing is a great idea for general day to day recipes - to flat out ask so that I can make your cupcakes instead of purchase from you is FLAT RUDE! Maybe she could ask Coke for the recipe???? Better yet, just the profits and skip the work too! ![]()
...that woman sounds like she was off her meds... that's just not the way normal people act.
Ditto %200!!!
You did the absolute right thing.
I kinda feel a bit sorry for her, not only did she disgrace herself, there is probably no way ever that she is going to taste that cupcake again!
You do hope that it was a medication problem and not the way she behaves normally.
I wonder if she was a competitor of yours and set this scene up to make you look bad. People would stoop low at times.
I would have done the same thing, you have all the right to not give out your recipes.

This is what my husband said too.
I really do feel so much better that all of you would have done the same thing. I don't feel like a big meanie now! ![]()
I share recipes here on CC, but in PM's. I will give my recipes to members who are not in my back yard. On CC, I have never refused except if it is published (and I made no changes), which would be copyright infringement. But I will always share the book title.
When someone asks me in person, I always say that my years of learning method is what makes my cakes good. This particular recipe depends on that skill, but I will be happy to share a similar recipe that always produces great results.
We all have the really good recipe that used to be our go-to until a better one came along. That is what I share.

I really think this is the case as well. If she threw the cupcake in the trash?? If she liked it so much to ask for the recipe, then why throw it away..I would never throw food away if it's that good.
Someone really doesn't want you to succeed, smile and laugh at her crazy behind. You have obviously made a name for yourself and this loon was trying to take that away, good for you for not stooping to her level and acting a fool. Don't ever let anyone make you feel bad for something you don't want to do.
