I want to stack an 11x15 pan (center carved out) on top of a 14" round for a special effect. Can this be done?? icon_surprised.gif
I also need to serve 150.. I was wondering what to do with the 'center' of the cut out cake. Should I decorate it and serve it pre-sliced?
Also, can this be assembled prior to delivery? Should I dowel this thing?? icon_rolleyes.gif
This is the first time I have done anything like this and any help, advice, suggestions are very appreciatedthumbs_up.gif.

I think it will work. Just make sure the 11x15 is on a cake board (you can ice the underside that hangs off the 14" if you need to)

Yes, I would dowel it

OK, having a hard time getting a visual of this one... how can you carve out a 11x15 and put it on top of a 14" round... I'm pretty visual and this is escaping me!

It should work as long as you have enough support on the 14" round. I agree with ME2 about using a cake board as well.

RE: Extra cake. Serving as precut is an excellent idea. NEVER and I mean NEVER waste cake! I'm not sure.....but, I THINK that is a sin! LOLL

Sorry, but I'm with Melissa. I can't get this picture in my mind. What are you going for? Maybe that will help us to understand. Just curious.

It's a Teacher Appreciation Cake and I'm wanting to make a border around the 'center' of the cake. I don't have all of the details ironed out in my head yet. The cake board is an excellent idea berthola, I have a dumb question though: How do you dowel the 14" cake into a particle board base??
icon_confused.gif
Also, will this be enough cake? I know that the 14" will serve approx 78, but I can't find the serving size for the 11x15. Does anyone knowq how much this will serve? ANy suggestions if this isn't the right size pan?

You'll have to post pics. I have NO IDEA how this would work! How much of the center are you carving out? It will be a deep hole looking down into the 14" cake? can you tell i'm clueless!? LOL

I am not sure is it my english, or luck of imagination, but I still have no idea how is it going to look like. Please post a picture of the finished cake.

It's not your english Sada, I'm clueless too. I mean, if you carve out too much of the middle there would be nowhere to dowel, right? Are you wanting to see down to the bottom cake? Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

Right now it's just a theory so I can't really explain it much better than I did, but I will post a pic of the cake when I'm finished if it all works out-wish me LUCK!

Can anyone tell me HOW MANY the 11x15 pan will serve?? I lost my pan instructions. icon_cry.gif

Original cake board idea was ME2's. Now, you are going to want to use a CARDBOARD cake board. Then you cut a hole in the center of the board where the dowel will go through the cake AND the board.

Having said that. I'm not the doweling expert here. I have never doweled through a cake and cakeboard. I use plastic adjustable dowels and construct ON SITE. I sometimes will use 1" PVC pipe cut to exact height needed and then place the "feet" of a plastic cake plate in the pipe. It works GREAT. But, I don't think that the PVC method will work in your case.

I have to admit....I really can't get my head around what you are thinking either. But, most of the time people can't get their heads around my ideas...so...there ya go!

GOOD LUCK!! POST A PIC!

It should serve about 50 according to Earlene's charts (2"x1" pieces), which means 60something for Wilton probably. But if you're removing some of the cake you'll need to decrease the number of servings accordingly. I made an 11x15" for a party for 30 people and they had 3 pieces left at the end.

Oh, sorry - thanks Marla! (love your "me2" :smile)
Yes, cardboard cake board is probably best. If you guys have any other ideas/thoughts, please let me know!
Thank you!

In MY area I always tell clients that an 11x15 will probably serve about 36 people. When people in Western KY want a piece of cake....they want a PIECE of cake! LOLL Since you are cutting out the middle you will need to adjust your servings accordingly.

You only need like 36 more servings right? How about some matching cupcakes around it? Or you could do another 11x15 on the side.
